INITIAL  EVALUATION

Transit service is provided along the Wasatch Front and in Utah County by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). UTA operates many types of transit service to accommodate the varied needs of communities and types of trips people are making throughout the region. A robust transit system serves different types of trips (ranging from shorter local trips to longer regional trips) and various transit modes (e.g., commuter rail, light rail, bus rapid transit, express bus, etc.). Different types of transit modes include bus (local bus, express bus, flex bus, and bus rapid transit (BRT)); train (light rail, commuter rail, and street car); paratransit (specialized service for people who require individualized transit service); vanpool; and other innovative options that utilize technology and on-demand service.

RAIL CORRIDOR EVALUATION

In general, the alternatives evaluation for the Rail Corridor tend to be the best performing because they can travel faster and would provide more reliable service due to the transit system operating outside of the roadway network. These options also have a high degree of community compatibility and offer economic development potential.

INTERSTATE 15 EVALUATION

In general, the alternatives operating in the I-15 Corridor have most variability of performance by mode. Alternatives would be the most challenging and complex to serve with fully exclusive transit due to the constraints of the existing and future highway needs and ensuring safety to the vehicles traveling on I-15.

MAIN/STATE STREET EVALUATION

In general, the overall corridor length of Main/State Street and the and number of traffic signals would slow transit travel times and would reduce reliability, making it more challenging to serve regional transportation needs. Similar to the I-15 corridor alternatives, there is a lot of variability by mode.
